This Saturday Moonee Valley Racecourse will come alive for the 2010 Cox Plate Day featuring nine quality races including the $200,000 Group 2 AAMI Vase (2040m).
The 2010 AAMI Vase final field has attracted 14 top three-year-olds and one emergency with early favourites to take out the feature including Shootoff, Rekindled Interest and Shadows In The Sun.
Kiwi-bred gelding Shootoff, trained by Graeme Rogerson in Sydney, is coming off a sensational Group 1 run in the Spring Champion Stakes at Randwick.
Going out as a $151 outsider, Shootoff put in a career best performance to finish third to Erewhon and after drawing ideally in barrier four for Saturday, looks a top pick.
Current second favourite to win the Victoria Derby on October 30, Rekindled Interest is another AAMI Vase runner sure to attract plenty of money from the punters.
The Jim Conlan-trained Redoute’s Choice gelding is coming off a fifth to Anacheeva in the Caulfield Guineas and is set to jump from barrier eight with Dwayne Dunn aboard on Saturday.
Another Victoria Derby-bond three-year-old looking to improve their credentials with a win on Saturday is the Anthony Cummings-trained Shadows In The Sun.
A last-start winner over 1,600m at Caulfield, Shadows In The Sun is in good form and despite drawing wide with barrier 11 has real claims here.
Other quality runners in the AAMI Vase this year include Listed Ming Dynasty Quality winner Lion Tamer, the highly-rated Hollowlea who won the Stutt Stakes here two starts back and the Lee Freedman-trained Smokin’ Joey.
Scheduled as the sixth race on the bumper nine-event card for Moonee Valley on Saturday, the 2010 AAMI Vase is set to start at 4:00pm (AEDST) two races before the headline event, the 2010 Cox Plate.
